What Are Your Hopes, What Are Your Dreams....What Are Your Passions?
I've watched the new Anchorman trailer and this clip at least 10 times today...laughing hysterically.
From Ron's bio:
By the age of nine, Ron already had a full mustache which he groomed daily with an assortment of brushes. He also demonstrated a manly and comforting pre-pubescent baritone. This powerful and authoritative voice allowed him to hail cabs and purchase liquor for his grade school friends.

Lesson learned today: it's wilwheaton.NET not .ORG!!!
***update***
As I was giving my pro web design workshop on blogs and blogging, I mention Wil Wheaton's blog and how it made both Wil Wheaton and blogging popular by getting to read a rather personal journal of someone who's somewhat famous...and someone who comments on being famous, ex-child star, etc. etc.
First I load www.wilwheaton.com and then realize, oh yeah it's not a ".com"...it's a .org. So then I load www.wilwheaton.org(**WARNING**could be graphic or malicious) in front of my whole audience and load a picture of a man bent over with a OBGYN tool lodged in his bung hole. Thankfully I was quick on the trigger although I did cause emotional distress to a few of the women in the audience. I did not falter though - carried on like nothing terrible happened, tieing it in to my earlier part of the discussion - why trust is a part of good usability and design...
So yeah, it's www.wilwheaton.NET

Phish has called it quits. And while I can't say I will miss them in their current incarnation, the band will always be part of some very fond memories. I imagine the band members will go on to work on their own, extremely creative projects - which I have enjoyed just as much. But I'm glad they are cashing in now before the house could win it all back like it has with so many other wildly successful bands.

A Thing Or Two On User Interface
I just finished reading the breakdown of Mac OS X vs. Windows XP at, appropriately named, www.xvsxp.com. The article is exhausting to read but offers a lot of information and explanation behind user interface design, something I've been off and on very interested in. The article even put in a Tufte quote...

I am on my computer, online and at Devin's place! Plugged back into the Matrix, getting my fix of pixels, data and my music collection.
This weekend, we'll be using ol' Macalaster II to edit Dev's final film for Production II...and avoiding the crazy lighting storms outside.
I missed my baby...now I hope he and Devin get along ok...
And I hope the cats stay away too...

As an "active Blogger user" I got invited to create a Gmail account!! So feel free to send me 100MB attachments to kevinbarnett at gmail.com (email link removed to prevent spam) .
The paid placement ads aren't a big deal...they just show up on the right column and are much less intrusive and distracting than Yahoo! or Hotmail's web based email.
Here's the welcome email they sent me:
First off, welcome. And thanks for agreeing to help us test Gmail. By now you probably know the key ways in which Gmail differs from traditional webmail services. Searching instead of filing. A free gigabyte of storage. Messages displayed in context as conversations.
So what else is new?
Gmail has many other special features that will become apparent as you use your account. Youll find answers to most of your questions in our searchable help section, which includes a Getting Started guide. You'll find information there on such topics as:
You may also have noticed some text ads or related links to the right of this message. They're placed there in the same way that ads are placed alongside Google search results and, through our AdSense program, on content pages across the web. The matching of ads to content in your Gmail messages is performed entirely by computers; never by people. Because the ads and links are matched to information that is of interest to you, we hope you'll find them relevant and useful.
You're one of the very first people to use Gmail. Your input will help determine how it evolves, so we encourage you to send your feedback, suggestions and questions to us. But mostly, we hope you'll enjoy experimenting with Google's approach to email.

The Gmail Team

Why Paris Is Named Paris
I had one of the best times in a movie theater last night seeing Troy with Cliff + The Barbin Clan (Luke, Lori, Jaime and Dr. Gary K. Barbin). And not because it was a fantastic movie but because it was horrible and we got to heckle it the whole time. It was clearly obvious to all of us that this film was targeted towards 1. gay men, 2. women and 3. gay men and women who have no taste. And because I know most gay men and women have good taste, they all came to see some hot bare ass since nothing else decent is in theaters this weekend. But there isn't much Helen of Troy's bare ass.
In fact, this was the first film I have seen since The Full Monty which showed more raciness with the male actors than the female. Yes, this film was definitely the daytime soap opera version of The Illiad.
Best jokes of the evening:
"What's with the fallic barricades on the beach, this ain't Normandy people..."
"They're getting it from the balls of fire"
"Ahh how cute, Legolas still knows how to use a bow and arrow"
"Brad's gonna show her his sword after he's done showing us his ass"
"Laaaa, whooooooooo, ahhhhhh ahhhhh ahh leeeee ohhhh" (mocking the lame score)
"Take a drink everytime you see a burning body funeral ceremony"
"Take a drink everytime you see bare man ass"
"Immortality!!! It's Your's!! Take IT, BITCH!"
I'm not hip to The Illiad but I would like to think that Orlando Bloom's pussy of a character (named Paris) is what Paris, France is named after. It's just so...FRENCH.
Yeah, unless you have a big group of friends to go heckle this piece, I'd avoid it like the plague.

Lawdog
Today I met up with friends and family to celebrate Mr. Luke Barbin's graduation from law school. I know he's worked hard and played just as hard so I'm happy to see that he's done with hell that is law school. Now we can only hope he will use his smarts for good instead of evil...
I'm sure he will unless he's bailing me out of something which is typically very. very evil...
I'm very proud of my friend...

Mean, Mean Girls
At Devin's request, we went to a screening of Mean Girls starring Freaky Friday's Lindsay Lohan. It wasn't as grueling as one (fella who's not so much into teenie-bop flicks) would think. The wit of the lovely Tina Fey struck through in the writing and definitely made the film a comment and satire as much as it was delicious entertainment for those who love High School Drama...
All of the SNL alums were funny and the high school girls, or the "plastics" were definitely...plastic.

Has My Blog Died?
Many think so...but it just so happens that my blog is "mostly dead". There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive...and with all dead, there's only one thing you can do...
Go through his clothes and look for loose change.
Since February, I have essentially been living away from home, spending most of my time at Devin's place which has caused many to wonder where in the hell am I or what the hell am I doing?
Devin reminded me that I used to post blog entries from school - and that I used to be really into blogging. That's true. So what happened?
I got lazy about it?
Lost interest?
Have better things to do?
The blog was a nice way for me to focus on the day, document happenings and the tragedy is that the blog has missed out on a lot of experiences.
And I have a lot I want to write about. Things I want to say to the screen, regardless of who reads them.
However, this is my blog and I can make up the rules as I go, which there are few if any rules. But one rule is that I can go back and make "historical posts" if I didn't get to. The completist in me hates to see missing dates, now months so I am going to fill those in. Perhaps my failure on the blog project itself has kept me away, which is a terrible personality trait of mine.
So here we go, a proverbial CPR + shock to the Blog's heart to see if we can get this thing running again.

Shooting Untitled
After sending the Imaginary Friends (working title) project back into what they call "Development Hell" in the industry, we decided to blow the dust off an old project and shoot it for Devin's second film.
Except that there was no dust on the old project and it wasn't very old.
Described as a Bound meets Fatal Attraction meets Basic Instinct meets Psycho thriller, I think we shot a great story. It was a one day, two night shoot - of course the nights were very long nights, typically running into the next morning. But we got all of our shots done - I was DP on the film but had to step out due to clausterphobia in the bathroom. 2 700K tungsten lights + 4 people + 30 sq ft + no air circulation + 5 in the morning kinda freaked me out. I now understand why films with enough of a budget will just construct interiors...
And now we're waiting on the film to get processed and telecine'ed. Fingers are crossed but I feel pretty confident with the 500 ASA film we were shooting with...10 stop latitude...would be difficult to mess up.
I will say that I had a BLAST working on it though and the crew/cast are not only talented but a lot of fun to work with. Hope it won't be the last time.
